Students Swear By These 5 Best Study Spots in Hong Kong
Finding the best study spots in Hong Kong is pretty much a survival skill. Between packed libraries and shared spaces that are beyond the student budget, getting into the zone seems pretty impossible.
Don’t worry though – we’ve personally explored places to find out which ones students go to whenever they need some quiet time. Our search led us to cafes with comfortable seating and a decent selection of food for in-between breaks!
How much will it cost to go to a study spot in Hong Kong? Going to a study spot in Hong Kong can cost $50 to $150 per visit. This usually depends on what food and drinks you order, as most study spots in the city are small cafes. |

Lof10 is small, though we find this advantageous, particularly for solo work or small group discussions. Because of its size, the space tends to be quiet, with only the occasional sound of coffee-sipping and light chatter filling the area.
We appreciate that the owner speaks good English as well. This makes it easier for foreign visitors to settle in, making them a good choice for tourists on a short business or study trip.
As for food, we find their options small but sufficient. Their espresso is bold and had just enough kick to fuel many hours of study. Patrons often pair it with their sweet potato cheesecake, which is cheap and tasty, though nothing extraordinary.
Location is another major plus. The place is tucked away from the usual Central crowds. It’s easy to reach via MTR, although there’s an uphill walk to get there.
Prices are reasonable, too, with light meals starting at around $150 for two. Given the portion, it may be best for students to share meals—it’s a nice way to save money here, too, as regulars spend hours when settled in.
Just take note that if you’re sensitive to smell, you may not enjoy the occasional scent drifting from the neighboring pet store. It wasn’t a dealbreaker to us during our visit (since the scent isn’t overpowering), but we get how it’s a big no for others.
Friendly staff and creative drinks
“Not sure why this isn’t at minimum a 4 star….they allow dogs, that is minimum a 4 star in my book and add in the friendly staff and creative drinks. Good drinks, off the beaten path, plenty of seating, good place to study or play jenga (bring your own). You won’t be disappointed. They have a s’mores latte there, it’s awesome. Go try for yourself!”

Great place to chill
“Great place to chill, bring your dog, read and just have a coffee with a snack. Great environment for dogs and their respective owners. Staff is decent and kept the place quite clean and followed covid preventative measures. The food and drink quality is decent but definitely on the high price spectrum.”

SOL Mate Club is a cozy spot that’s popular among remote workers in Hong Kong. But with a nice mix of seating options, it’s slowly becoming a popular spot for students too.
There are couches in the area, which we find comfortable for long yet laidback study sessions. What’s even nicer is that there’s plenty of natural light coming into the place, making it easy to stay focused on warm inside.
For students who love taking quick breaks in between, we find this spot to be a good choice. It’s right next to a basketball court where people can jog out too after sitting down for too long.
When it comes to food, it’s one of the spots where we actually enjoyed the options. They have their best-selling shrimp burger as well as tacos for those who want a lighter option. For drinks, their jasmine latte is cheap and smooth.
Plus, anyone only needs at least $50 to enjoy the place and take advantage of its amenities.
It’s important to note though that since big groups often come here to study, the noise can be a little too uncomfortable at times. Off-peak hours, before and after lunchtime, are often the best time to come for more peace.

For those who prefer a more office-like feel, we find Preface Coffee & Wine to be a good choice. This is because their selling point really is their flexible space, with a spacious layout that makes remote work comfortable and easy.
Solo diners can have a fine time here as the tables and chairs can be arranged according to preference. Group work is possible, but considering the seating options, it’s more tailored for small teams.
There are plenty of power outlets, too, which we found convenient. We also liked that they have a small bookstore section inside, ideal for visitors who want to take short breaks between their study sessions.
As for refreshments, we find it interesting that they offer a new coffee flavor every week. Unfortunately, nothing has impressed us yet, and we find their options to be higher-priced than other spots.
Fortunately, the service is really good. We find the staff to be friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They make the space feel more “social” too, and we appreciate how cheerful they are even with multiple requests.
Spacious working space
“Spacious cafe/working space in Central. They also have a wine bar and bookstore in it but didn’t check them out. Coffee was nice and mellow, the dirty was somehow stronger than the americano. The ham and cheese croissant was good but a bit small for the price. Good place to get some work done!”

We find Detour to be a solid spot for those who want to go solo for their study sessions. The place is small and can only seat about 16 people, so there’s minimal noise inside.
The location is amazing as well. Apart from its accessibility via public transit, it’s also situated on Hollywood Road, far away from the city buzz that can be distracting.
Despite the size, working on a laptop here is pretty comfortable. The tables are sturdy and there are outlets in case your battery runs out (having a power bank is still advised though, since the regulars here do tend to use them a lot).
As for refreshments, they have by far the best selection in terms of taste alone. Their coffee is light and smooth, while their cappuccino with soy milk has a nice velvety foam with a light hint of nuttiness.
The staff is friendly too, so you won’t really feel out of place here. But since the area isn’t very spacious, it may be best for groups to look somewhere else for a more comfortable stay.
Chill and friendly vibes
“A nice corner cafe that’s super convenient for you to stop by. Love the chill vibes and staff here included the friendly boss. A place to come back & unwind.”

This popular coffee spot in Hong Kong is also a great option for those who need a quick study space. The chairs here are cushioned, perfect for long hours of sitting.
One of the best perks here is the free Wi-Fi, which allows up to two hours of access daily without requiring a purchase. Just take note that this is a membership-exclusive benefit, so consider getting one if you want to stay committed to the coffee pot.
The location is great too, considering it’s inside Olympia Plaza. This puts diners close to other amenities inside the mall, making post-study exploring and shopping easy.
When it comes to food, customers get access to all the signature Pacific Coffee goodies: coffees, teas, and light snacks. While nothing stood out as particularly unique, the Americano and matcha latte were satisfying choices.
Additionally, the food here is reasonably priced – for a mid-range cafe, you’ll only spend around $50 to $100 here. They’re also generous with promotional offers, often selling buy-one-get-one-free deals.
Small but cozy
“Small but cozy. Elegant choices of teas and coffee. Today they had a buy one get one free deal.”
