Trust Me, These 12 Best Birthday Cake Places in Hong Kong are Next-Level!

Big day for you or a special someone? Yay! But also – have you found the perfect cake yet? Because let’s be real, while the celebrant is the main event, the birthday cake can steal just as much as the spotlight.

Knowing how important celebrating another year of life is, I know I had to do one thing: find the best places in Hong Kong for the best birthday cakes. After doing the hardwork (aka getting the excuse to eat cake), I’ve finally rounded up my list.

Only trust these places for your big day!

1. Sweet Secrets

Sweet Secrets is a great option for those who need customized birthday cakes. They can create intricate designs (think unique animal-themed layouts!) that are ideal for every event – though we think they’re best for kids’ birthdays!

What makes them unique is that 70% of their menu is gluten-free. This means that people on alternative diets (paleo, vegan, keto) can enjoy their offerings with zero guilt.

Fun fact – they’re the first baker in Hong Kong to offer gluten-free desserts!

And yes, their gluten-free options taste just as good as traditional cakes – it’s impossible to tell the difference. With awesome prices too, we think you’ll love coming back to this stop.

2. The Cakery (Pacific Place)

Customization is The Cakery’s specialty, with crazy design options, including comic-inspired cakes for birthdays. But beyond design, other things make this shop a top choice, and taste is just one of them!

For reference, The Cakery offers options such as apple crumble and pandan. The texture of their cake is always dense and really fluffy to taste. And since most of their options are sugar-free and gluten-free, there’s no guilt in finishing the whole thing yourself.

If you’re having a small party, their 4” option is just right for about eight people. The 6” option may seem a little too big, but this is a great option if you’re looking into having a more complicated design.

3. Butter

Sometimes birthday cakes don’t have to be super complicated, and this is where Butter steps in. They sell classic favorites that are best for the kiddos, including their well-loved chocolate cake that’s ideal for small celebrations.

If you want something “standard”, their funfetti cake is a great choice. It’s cheap and simple, plus it has those cute rainbow sprinkles and that authentic US supermarket cake texture (which is code for manufactured taste, but you can’t get enough of it anyway!).

Customer service is superb too. If they have flavors available, they can do same-day deliveries. If you need an emergency cake, they’re likely your best bet.

4. Le Dessert

The place is actually the best online patisserie in Hong Kong, with collections available via Instagram, their website, or simply via WhatsApp. Even foreigners outside HK can easily make orders, and have the cake delivered to a friend in HK with no delays,

The place obviously isn’t cheap, but those who appreciate the luxury will definitely love it.

They have an insane range of flavors too, including their famous moose cake. This one has a smooth jasmine tea loose layer on top and a layer of mango and grapefruit jelly in the middle.

It’s also worth noting the little touches – their takeaway boxes are very easy to open and close since the sides are magnetic. You can easily stash them away in the fridge once you’re done with a slice!

Best known for their crepe cakes, you can’t go any more iconic than getting a cake at Lady M Cake Boutique. They offer some of the most delicious desserts in the city, offering a wide range of flavors to explore.

Their sea salt caramel crepe cake and cheese cake were both nice and smooth. But if you want that hint of earthiness, reserve their green tea mille crepe. It’s not overly sweet so you can chow down on them for hours.

On top of all these, the boutique isn’t insanely priced – some options are even affordable considering the size. So for a budget-friendly and tasty cake, don’t miss out on this one.

Buying a cake and taking it home is one thing, but I think you should also take the time to enjoy it in a peaceful setting on your big day. For that experience, The Mandarin Cake Shop is your best bet.

You really shouldn’t leave without trying their signature 1963 cheesecake (known by the locals for its historical secret recipe). This cake has a nice condensed cheese flavor – not too sweet but more savory thanks to the tight texture.

If you can’t get enough, try out their scones with their famous rose petals jam. It’s delicious and savory and a must-try with earl grey or coffee!

8. Otera

Otera is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for a unique birthday cake. They specialize in umami desserts, which means the desserts here meet savory and sweet, with hints of sugar sprinkled on lightly.

FYI, this is the first brand ever to debut the umami-inspired dessert dinner concept from Japan!

For a small party of 8, you can get by with their 6” option. My favorite is the lemongrass flan cake –  smooth, light, and feels super lavish with its airy texture.

If you want something saltier, the soy sauce caramel flan is a great choice. The saltiness layed with the custard is simply heavenly.

For cute, ready-made cakes, don’t skip Zoe Cake. They’re a cool spot to score cakes for any occasion, with a wide range of flavors that are also great for health-conscious buyers.

One highlight is their daisy double decker cake that’s made of chocolate and hazelnut cream. It’s creamy, with the chocolate chips giving it a nice crunch and texture. And of course, the daisy decoration at the top is just super cute.

If you want to go big, though, they have a chocolate truffle cake that has three layers: biscuits as base, dark chocolate sponge in the middle, and chocolate cream on top. It’s perfect for those who love moist and delicate bites.
