The 5 Best Liquor Stores in Hong Kong for Rare and Everyday Finds

  • Product Selection: We evaluated the range and diversity of products offered at each store. We looked into how well the stores catered to different tastes, from rare international brands to local favorites.
  • Pricing: We considered the prices across various product categories, comparing them to the market average. We looked for stores that provided competitive pricing without compromising on quality. Stores with frequent promotions also earned our attention.
  • Customer Service: We assessed the quality of customer service, including knowledge of staff and willingness to help. We looked into how well the staff communicated product information and offered recommendations to customers, whether in-store or online.

It all started when we realized our go-to liquor store in Hong Kong just wasn’t cutting it anymore. It was our anniversary, and my partner and I were staring at the bottle, telling ourselves, “This again?.”

Driven by the chance to try something new, we decided to explore and find the best spots in the city. After a little more digging, we found five hidden gems offering unique selections and great prices.

From rare international wines to local craft spirits, these stores had it all. Check it out to see what we have to say.

When we visited the HK Liquor Store, we were impressed by its well-curated selection of premium liquor. The store offers a wide range of products, from rare whiskies like Rock Oyster and Teeling Single Malt to a fine selection of gin and rum.

We found the store’s pricing to be competitive. While it’s not the cheapest, the quality and selection make it worth the price.

The ambiance of the shop is also welcoming. It’s a bit small, though, so those who prefer browsing in larger spaces might not have the best experience.

The store’s smaller size also limits its inventory, so it can sometimes run out of stock on popular items. This can be disappointing if you’re looking for a specific bottle.

We also want to commend the store’s customer service. We appreciate that the staff is willing to check other locations for stock availability if you’re after a particular item.

Another plus is the website. It offers regular specials and a user-friendly experience for online shopping.

Pros

  • Well-curated selection
  • Competitive pricing
  • Welcoming ambiance
  • Excellent customer service
  • User-friendly website

Cons

  • Smaller store size
  • Limited inventory

    Great selection with knowledgeable staff

“Lovely shop with a great selection of liquor. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.”

Staff a generally very helpful and will check other locations if you are looking for something that is out of stock.”

Corney & Barrow Hong Kong offers a curated selection of world-class wines. Their extensive portfolio includes rare, high-quality labels. They even have exclusive selections from sought-after estates like Giacomo Conterno and Maison Tardieu-Laurent.

The store frequently stocks wines from exclusive wineries, offering exceptional value for both casual drinkers and connoisseurs.

During our visit, we saw that the staff was not only well-versed in wine but also highly attentive to customer preferences. They were always ready to offer expert recommendations and guide customers through their impressive range of wines.

Another thing we love is that delivery within Hong Kong is free for orders over $1,500. We found this really helpful since the prices of some wines can be high, so saving even just the delivery fees makes a lot of difference.

One downside, however, is that Corney & Barrow does not offer a loyalty program for frequent buyers. Given the premium nature of their selection, a rewards system or exclusive member benefits could enhance the experience for returning customers.

    Pros

    • Sells rare and collectible wines
    • Free delivery over $1,500
    • Excellent customer service

    Cons

    • No loyalty program for frequent buyers

Professional wine merchants and great wineries

“C&B HK got to be one of the most professional wine merchants in Hong Kong. I had the pleasure buying from them for many years. They are discreet, thoughtful, resourceful and most importantly reliable. They represent many exceptional wineries in their portfolio with many being exclusive including Giacomo Conterno!.”

      Ken Tam | Google Reviews

      Amazing wine tasting

“Absolutely amazing wine tasting event. 8 wines lined up for tasting turned out to be all good:).”

The Fine Wine Experience boasts an impressive collection of wines. They offer rare vintage items and sought-after labels, such as wines from Burgundy and even the renowned Biondi Santi.

Their staff is what truly sets them apart. When we visited, we were greeted by experts who provided personalized recommendations based on our preferences.

The Fine Wine Experience also regularly hosts wine-tasting events. We found this helpful for guests who want to explore new labels.

In addition to its wine offerings, The Fine Wine Experience has also introduced a new French bistro—a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine. Here, wine lovers can order and drink on-site, so customers can hang out at a leisurely pace.

While the selection is undeniably exceptional, it’s worth noting that some of their labels are not in pristine condition. This may be due to import and transport issues from US suppliers. However, it’s still worth a visit for those seeking the finest wines.

      Pros

      • Impressive wine selection
      • Knowledgeable and friendly staff
      • Regular wine-tasting events
      • Spacious and well-designed store

      Cons

      • Bottle condition issues

        Great selection of vintage wine

“Very professional wine dealers & staff with good collection of vintage wines including some of rare items. Spacious & cosy store, even featured with a new French bistro. Frequent offers of wine tasting activities.”

What we liked most about Watson’s Wine is its modern approach to wine retailing. One of the standout features is their “New Best Prices” initiative. It ensures that customers can purchase their favorite wines at the best available price at any time.

This takes the guesswork out of buying wines, making it easier for regular shoppers and casual buyers to stock up without worrying about upcoming sales or promotions.

The store itself is inviting, offering a selection of wines from around the world. There are exquisite labels like the Ruinart Rosé NV Champagne and the bold Orin Swift 8 Years in the Desert.

For those who want to shop here regularly, a membership to their Wine Club is a fantastic perk. With this, you get members’ discounts on top of their best price guarantee.

The sales staff here is also commendable. They’re always ready with good advice and recommendations, from pairing wines with food to suggesting bottles based on personal taste.

However, while Watson’s ensures fair prices among their offerings through their consistent pricing, they still charge more for certain bottles compared to their competitors.

        Pros

        • “New Best Prices” initiative
        • Wine club member discounts
        • Wide selection of wines
        • Inviting store atmosphere
        • Knowledgeable and culturally sensitive staff

        Cons

        • High pricing than median rates

Well-curated from all over the world

“I happened to drop in as a tourist ambling around Central which was quiet on a mid winter Sunday. It was a cosy grotto with a well curated range of wine from all over the world. Chief Samson recommended a red which took a while to oxidise. During this time he showed his depth of knowledge in wine, i felt his recommendations were culturally sensitive to my Asian palate. In the end i was thrilled to walked away with a bottle of rare wine from Ningxia.”

Located in the picturesque area of Sai Kung, The Bottle Shop HK offers an impressive range of craft beers, spirits, and more. This charming little liquor store is a must-visit for anyone who loves to explore various types of liquor in one go.

We really love the location. It faces the promenade and harbor, which adds a unique touch to the experience. Their outdoor seating area also allows customers to enjoy their drinks right outside the shop, overlooking the serene view of the pier.

Even better, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They’re always ready to assist with recommendations and answer questions about every type of drink they have.

Clients we spoke to praised the store’s online presence. The website is easy to navigate, and the efficient customer service caters to both local and international orders. In fact, one customer praised the quick delivery service, even when ordering gifts to be sent abroad.

However, we did find their prices to be a little steep compared to other liquor stores in the area.

          Pros

          • Scenic location
          • Excellent selection of craft beers
          • Outdoor seating
          • Easy-to-navigate website
          • Offers international shipping
          • Impressive customer service

          Cons

          • Higher prices

            Enjoyable but premium drinks

“Very nice little liquor shop. It’s not the cheapest for sure but a lot of the stuff is proper craft so you pay the price for that. If you want to drink your beer soon you can exchange the cans for cold ones so we took on that offer and enjoyed the drink outside looking over the pier. Great stuff..”

            Great and endless collection

            “Great collection, loved it 👏

They also have an online store, means there’s no end of their collection! Haha …”
